Hundreds of rural properties west of Kamloops were taken off of evacuation alert Monday night.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District downgraded six different evacuation alerts to all clear, affecting 1,008 properties.
That included giving the all clear for Tobiano, Savona and 15 properties east of Ashcroft, which had been on alert from the Tremont Creek fire, as well as lifting alerts for 298 properties at and near Loon Lake, closer to the Sparks Lake wildfire. Fifty-nine properties south of Logan Lake, near Mamette Lake, were also given the all clear.
There have been no new evacuation orders or alerts anywhere in the TNRD since August 16, as cooler and calmer weather has reduced wildfire activity in many areas. Since August 16, more than 900 homes within the TNRD have been taken off of evacuation order while close to 2,200 homes were given the all clear.
In that time, Logan Lake has also come off of evacuation order while Merritt and Barriere were taken off of alert.
There are now 246 active wildfires in B.C. The fire danger rating, as of Monday afternoon, had even dropped to “very low” in parts of the southern Interior, and was low to moderate in most areas.
